Q

I have been advised by my tutor that I should be using a referencing software. She mentioned zotero - how do I find out about this?

Zotero is one example of a bibliographic management software - a way of collecting together all your research material into one place, manage it and cite it.  The IOE doesn't officially support Zotero, but we do have a guide to it that you might find useful http://libguides.ioe.ac.uk/zotero.

There are other options too - the IOE's 'official' (in that it is installed on all student machines, and there are training opportunities available etc) bibliographic software is Endnote http://libguides.ioe.ac.uk/endnote.

Mendeley is another free one http://libguides.ioe.ac.uk/mendeley

You can choose whatever software you prefer to use, but it's probably best once you've made your decision to stick with it.
