Answer

Technically no. We would always use the most recent edition available. We can only digitise from an older edition if there is a valid pedagogic reason to do so (for example a unique chapter subsequently omitted). It is not possible to copy 2 chapters from two editions of the same book.

Similarly it is not possible to digitise one chapter from one edition for week 1 and another chapter from a different edition for week 2 for example? The duration of the course is the key and this could be viewed as possible textbook substitution.

It is possible to digitise 2 chapters from the same edition where the publisher permits this. There is normally an additional charge incurred which is passed on to the department.
